Hampshire Cup

Seacourt Men’s 1st squash team have won the Hampshire Cup. Luke Danby, Andrew Jameson, Aaron Flipance, Andy Craig and Greg Wells fought hard from 2-0 down to take a 3-2 win against a strong Trojans side. Player of the tie was arguably Luke who in the deciding first string match literally hit his opponent off the court with his usual mixture of brutal hitting and cultured strokeplay, which quickly silenced the enthusiastic Trojans support.

The cup triumph concludes a very solid season and mention should go the whole squad who have performed with skill, heart and humour throughout.

We now look forward to 2013/4.

Lastly a huge thank you to Andrew Jameson for leading the team to a famous victory last night and for all his hard work and passion in captaining the men’s team throughout the season.

Commiserations to Seacourt’s Division 2 National league side, who were beaten 3-0 by the Royal Tennis Court in the Final on Sunday night.

Louis Gordon and Adam Player put up a valiant fight against David Watson and Charlie Crossley in their respective singles matches, but whatever they tried and with luck seeming to be with their opponents throughout, it just wasn’t going to be their night.

The evening was concluded with a hard hitting and entertaining doubles match, posted here for those that weren’t able to watch it live

April fun doubles was played in glorious weather and lifted the standard to new heights.

After a gruelling round robin Ken Hearn and Dan Francis took on Phil Howard Smith and Matt Boulton in an epic final. After 25 minutes of intense play Dan Francis and Ken Hearn won the coveted mars bar. A warm welcome to Phil who has only been a member for one week and reached his first final already. Definitely one to watch!!

Squash 1st team

Dan Jones does it left handed

Seacourt’s squash 1st team signed off the league campaign with a great win against the youthful Southampton University side. Another set of strong performances from Aaron, Andy Craig and Greg Wells were overshadowed by a guest appearance from our ageless professional Dan Jones who pulled off a famous win with his left hand.

Playing at number 3, Dan showed exceptional control of his strokes and, once victory look possible, the steely determination reminiscent of his glory years. His opponent was visibly gutted when told over the match dinner that Dan was actually right handed…..! The rest of us are now hoping Dan does not enter the club competition.

The team signed off with a respectable mid-table position mid-table having won 9 out of 16 matches and look forward to the Hampshire cup final in a couple of weeks time.

Cheers
