We are one week away from the start of the 2016 Seacourt Silver Racquet.

Play commences at 0900 on Thursday 4th February with the Qualifiers and continues on Friday at 0900 with the main draw.

After 23 knock out matches, we reached the conclusion of the 2016 Hampton Cup today with both 3rd & 4th place play offs and Finals being contested

In the play offs seasoned Hampton Cup Veteran Lara Jameson met newcomer Matthew Walker in a two set match. A nervous start from Lara gave Matt an opportunity to open up a lead. However Lara battled to recover the early deficit drawing level at 5 all, taking her 6th game to secure the set.
Lara started strong in the second set going 2 – 0 up. Matt responded positively drawing level at 2 -2, but this drew a renewed attack from Lara taking it to 5-2. Matt fought valiantly taking the next game for 5-3, but Lara proved too strong on the day taking the match with a 6-3 win in the 2nd set

In the final an in form Josh McMurrugh came up against Hampton Cup 2015 Champion and 2016 Chetwood Trophy Champion Huw Thomas. A 2 point handicap divided the pair, leaving Josh Owing half 15. The match started evenly with games being shared up to 2 all. Huw then stepped up a gear taking the next 4 games to take the set 6-2.

Huw remained dominant in the second set taking the first 4 games. Josh responded well taking the next 3 and seemed to be on track to take it to a 3rd set decider. Huw had other plans for the afternoon though taking it to 5-3. and only letting Josh have one more game before closing out the match 6-4.

Looking at the Hampton Cup roll of honour, Huw appears to be only the second Seacourt player to win the Hampton Cup 2 years back to back. With M. McMurrugh having won in 1988 & 1989 and also in 1978 & 1982. It is yet to be confirmed as to whether these 4 wins and indeed the back to back win are attributable to Mark or Mike. Update to follow

The Qualifiers start at 0900 on Thursday 4th February, with the successful competitors progressing to the main draw starting at 0900 on Friday 5th February

The Silver Raquet Dinner will be held on the Friday evening. (further details to follow)

The Quarter Finals will be played on Saturday 6th February from 1000, with Semi Finals starting at 1000 on Sunday the 7th

The Final will be played on Sunday afternoon at 1400

Prize Cash draws will take place with the 1st three lucky winners to be announced.

First 200 club junior award to be presented.
