After 10 hours of gruelling match play, 21 sets, 163 games. Louis Gordon, Claire Vigrass, Adam Player and Lewis Williams qualified for the main event. Chris Herbert was the lucky loser who also qualified.

The day produced some excellent tennis. Paul Weaver rolled back the years and showed the youngsters how to play the game with an exceptional win over Jules Camp in a tough 3 setter.

Nick Jones raised his game to new heights and threatened to take a set off Lewis Gordon and the man of the day was Giles Gunning with a awesome victory over Nick Harris who is ten points better on paper!! Giles then went toe to toe with Lewis Williams who had to fight for every point to win a place in the main event..

Squash: Men's 1st team

Posted by Seacourt Tennis Club at Feb 3, 2013 4:17AM PST

Played 8 won 3, but in the semis of the cup”……that is the story of the first half of the season.

After a bright start the team suffered a massive blow (as did the squash court floor) when Matt Jones tore his achilles, ruling him out for the rest of the season. Our big guns (Luke, Nick Atkins and Connor) have been largely absent so overall we have done well to hold our own in this competitive division.

Aaron with 6 wins and 2 losses (one of which playing at number 1) has been the pick of the team but everyone has chipped in the hard fought victories throughout. Our resident pro, Dan J, is yet to win a match but given he is playing at number 2 and with his wrong hand, he is certainly giving some his opponents a long journey home and considering auctioning their rackets on e-Bay.

Somewhat surprisingly this year, everyone has managed so far to avoid the curse of the 12yr year old superstar (Barry) and/or loss to a member of the fairer sex (too many to name and shame) but some have certainly been close….and we have 8 more matches to go.

Hope for the second half of the season is a decent up run and to avoid relegation….but so was Aston Villa’s…!!!
