Lawn Tennis: Men's 2nd team captain report

Posted by Dan Jones at Jan 19, 2013 7:07AM PST

James Law parting said this – After 4 straight defeats in the 2nd tier of top flight tennis in the south, Seacourt 2 have sacked their
manager and have appointed Ian “Redknapp” Collier in a defiant attemptto turn the teams fortunes around and survive in the competitive relegation battle! Does this new inexperienced manager have what ittakes?

Only time will tell, but off the back of his elite winter
training camp with assistant Vinny “stu pierce” Venus under the
beating suns of Lanzarote, they may just have and edge in their
arsenal, a string to their bow or even… a blasting backhand!!!

As the newbie of lawn tennis captains in the club, I can only say
this: Thankyou to James for not only running the 1st team and the 2nd
team lawn tennis mens doubles teams for sometime but also for
providing what can only be described as “barely edible” ham
sandwiches. However, it is up to me now to pick up the mantle which
has been left rolling around under the benches and for me alone to
cling on to whatever hope we have of not being surpassed by our third
team as they gain promotion to division 2 at the same time as we go
back to the floundering lows of division 3. With 4 games to go in the
winter league, and as we proudly prop up the table with our broad
shoulders, I put out a call to arms to all our sick note team members
that its time to stand up for that which we believe in, a call to
those that would rather spend a Sunday morning reading the papers and
enjoying a nice full English breakfast in the warmth and comfort of
their own homes, choosing this instead of making one of several trips
to the isle of wight to play tennis in the rain.. Ask not what your
tennis club will do for you, ask what you can do for your tennis club
- And Im thinking of you here Vince Venus..! My solace in our
impending relegation is only moderately surpassed by the fact that
with Pete Wilsons catering skills we surely cannot fail to win yet
again the league catering trophy. Veni, vidi, placentam edi.

Real Tennis court floods.

On January 12th 2013 during the last match of the day the torrential rain finally managed to seep onto the real tennis court with devastating effect. Within an hour the whole court was flooded along with the rackets court.

Thankfully the precautions we put in place after the the last flood in November 2009 proved to be quite effective and we managed to keep the most of the water away from the sports hall.

Team Seacourt pulled together and after 14 hours of pumping water and drying out the court, it was ready for action by 10am on Sunday morning.
